The members of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee and the representatives of civil society organisations gathered in the National Convention on the EU and monitoring the reforms within Chapter 24 (justice, freedom and security), met today at the National Assembly to discuss the priority reforms for 2017 within said Chapter.
Sonja Stojanovic Gajic, Coordinator of the National Convention on the EU Working Group for Chapter 24, presented the Working Group’s activities and reforms expected in the coming year in migration and asylum policy, combating organised crime and terrorism, and police cooperation.
The objective of the meeting was to establish dialogue between the MPs and the representatives of civil society gathered under the auspices of the National Convention on the EU about the reform of the police, judiciary and other services crucial for the conduct of policies within Chapter 24, and to inform the MPs about the resources at the disposal of the civil society which could be useful to the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee.
The role of the National Convention on the EU in Serbia’s EU accession process was ratified by the European Integration Committee 2014 Decision and the 2013 Resolution on the Role of the National Assembly and Principles in the Negotiations on the Accession of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union.
