Photo Contest “Destruction of Monuments of Eastern Christianity” Closed

168 authors had submitted 372 photos to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy’s international photo contest with the topic “Destruction of Monuments of Eastern Christianity”.


Three of the best will be chosen by a 12-member jury and will receive their prizes on 29 June in Thessaloniki where the best work will also be exhibited. The jury comprises representatives from Georgia, Armenia, Russia, Greece, Poland, Israel, India, Romania and Serbia.

Aleksandar Cotric, MP and Chairman of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy’s Culture Commission which realised the contest, said that the photos submitted to it depict important monuments of cultural heritage from Serbia, Turkey, the Middle East, Russia, Cypress and other countries and regions. The photos submitted for the contest fall into three categories – monuments damaged over time due to neglect, monuments damaged by natural disasters and atmospheric causes, and monuments damaged by deliberate human intervention.

The photographers from Russia, Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia, Cypress, Serbia, Ukraine and other countries who took part in the contest stand to win a plaque and 1500 EUR as first prize, 1000 EUR if they come in second, and 500 EUR for third place.

The contest was organised by the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, organisation comprising MP from 28 parliaments in the world.
