The Head of the PFG with Italy Jovan Palalic pointed out that the political relations between the two countries are at an exceptionally high and friendly level, particularly visible through the intensive exchange of visits at the highest diplomatic level. He stressed that the visits of Italian ministers had especially contributed to the development of overall cooperation, as well as the meetings between the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Palalic expressed his belief that today's meeting with the Italian delegation will contribute to the further improvement of interparliamentary cooperation, highlighting the importance of expanding overall cooperation to the regional level, which would further encourage the rapprochement of the two nations.

Speaking about economic cooperation, Palalic mentioned the extremely high level of Italian investments in Serbia and, in anticipation of the Specialised Exhibition EXPO 27, invited Italian companies to come to Belgrade in as large a number as possible.

Palalic reminded the guests that Serbia's chief foreign policy goal is membership in the European Union, with independent conduct of state policy, and peace in the region is a priority. In light of that, he spoke about the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija and the difficult position in which the Serbian and other non-Albanian inhabitants of that part of the Serbian territory find themselves. Palalic stressed that the main culprit for the crisis in Kosovo is Albin Kurti, who does not want to implement the obligations from the Brussels Agreement, is repressing Serbs, carrying out illegal arrests and organising illegitimate elections. On the other hand, says Palalic, the Serbian side fulfilled all of its obligations. He especially emphasised that the recognition of Kosovo's independence is not acceptable for Serbia under any circumstances.

The Head of the Italian delegation to CEI PD Salvatore Caiata pointed out that Italy strongly supports Serbia on its European path and that the acceleration of the process is vital. He emphasised that this should be discussed through parliamentary diplomacy, friendly talks and meetings of parliamentarians.

Regarding the difficult situation in Kosovo-Metohija, Caiata emphasised that Serbia's ambition to protect its people is completely legitimate and expressed hope that the conditions for the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities would be met in the near future. He stressed that peace in the region, which the President Aleksandar Vucic is striving for, must remain the main goal.

Speaking about economic cooperation, he said that investors look favourably on Serbia’s record GDP, reminding the hosts that Italy is Serbia's third foreign trade partner. He pointed out that there are 1,200 companies operating in Serbia, which employ around 23,000 workers and that interest in investing in Serbia among Italian investors is not waning, because they are familiar with our country’s exceptional economic progress and potential.

PFG Member Jadranka Jovanovic spoke from an artist's point of view about the exceptional cultural cooperation between the two countries, opining that there is room to improve cooperation in the field of education, student and professor exchange and language learning as a kind of bridge between the two peoples.

The meeting was also attended by PFG member Zika Bujuklic who shared his positive experience in cooperation with the Republic of Italy through a series of educational activities and student visits he organised as a University professor.
