PFG with Germany Meets with Bundestag Members

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Federal Republic of Germany, Prof. Dr.Sci.med. Marija Zdravkovic, and the Group members met today with the members of the German Bundestag Anton Hofreiter and Boris Mijatovic in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Serbia, Anke Konrad.

Zdravkovic stressed that Serbia greatly values its cooperation with Germany, which is one of our largest and most important partners in the fields of foreign trade, economy, investment, science and medicine.

She added that Germany provides significant support to Serbia's European integration, as well as regional stability through the Berlin Process initiative. She assessed that interparliamentary cooperation is very well developed, emphasising that the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany is one of the largest in the National Assembly, which testifies to the MPs’ eagerness for intensive cooperation with their colleagues from the Bundestag. She expressed her belief that this meeting will further strengthen Germany's support for Serbia's European path.

Bundestag members Anton Hofreiter and Boris Mijatovic stressed that Germany supports Serbia's European integration and its future membership in the European Union. They said that it is important that even member states that are sceptical about enlargement understand the importance of expanding and strengthening of the European Union. They assessed that it is in the interest of the citizens of Serbia that the country becomes a member of the EU and stressed the necessity of implementing reforms in order to meet the accession criteria.

The meeting was attended by a large number of members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Germany, who during the talks exchanged opinions on Serbia's European integration prospects and important reforms in the areas of the rule of law, media freedom and electoral conditions, as well as the importance of protecting the rights of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and in the region, and further improving economic and foreign trade cooperation between the two countries.
