PFG with Finland Meets with Finnish Ambassador to Serbia
The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Finland, headed by Pavle Grbovic, met today with the Finnish Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Nikolas Lindqvist.
At the beginning of the meeting, Grbovic welcomed the Finnish Ambassador and expressed his satisfaction that he will have the opportunity to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries from his new post. "I believe that this is a chance to establish better bilateral relations, an excellent chance to gain some new knowledge and to use the experiences that you have implemented, at a very high level, above all when it comes to the rule of law," said Grbovic. He added that the Republic of Serbia appreciates the principled support regarding the European integration of our country and our efforts to become full members of the EU, although, as he said, it is not an easy path. "We believe that it is commendable and good that you adhere to the principle that chapters should be opened only when all the conditions are met, which encourages us as a country to meet all criteria and do the best in the interest of our country," said the Head of the PFG. He expressed his belief that Serbia can learn a lot from Finland's experience in terms of regional cooperation, primarily highlighting the Nordic Initiative, as it is important for Serbia to support regional cooperation and initiatives, such as the Berlin Process and the Open Balkans. "What motivated me to join this friendship group and my interest chairing it is it that there is a field in which Serbia has not learned enough from Finland, from which we could take much more, and that is education," he explained. Grbovic added that this field is the foundation of every successful and progressive society.
Lindqvist took the opportunity to congratulate Pavle Grbovic on becoming the Head of the PFG with Finland and the founding of the Group, saying that this type of cooperation is one of the most effective ways to establish parliamentary contacts and bilateral cooperation, and agreed with the host that Serbia and Finland can cooperate and intensify that cooperation in the mentioned areas. He also spoke of the recent arrival of the Finnish delegation, at the level of foreign affairs, who, as he said, had fruitful meetings at the diplomatic level.
He agreed that the European Union has rigid views as regards opening new chapters on the road to European integration of Serbia and other candidate countries, but the reforms aim to improve the rule of law, democracy and transparency of states. He confirmed that one of his main goals is the promotion of the European Union and that member countries want Serbia as a full member of this community. The Ambassador also spoke about last year's joint conference on the presentation of the Finnish way of educating and the implementation of the Finnish education system in certain educational institutions.
The meeting was also attended by PFG members Stasa Stojanovic, Milica Marusic Jablanovic and Tatjana Petrovic Stojkovic, who expressed their belief that the establishment of the PFG will be the beginning of fruitful cooperation, both at the institutional level and at the level of areas of mutual interest, which will enhance the overall cooperation of the two countries. They also spoke of future meetings at the parliamentary level, as well as cooperation in the fields of culture and economy.
At the end of the meeting, Grbovic congratulated Finland on joining the NATO alliance, considering that this was one of Finland's strategic goals in the past few years.
