PFG with Denmark Meets with Danish Ambassador to Serbia

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Denmark, headed by Elvira Kovacs, met today, with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Serbia, H.E. Susanne Shine.

At the very beginning of the meeting, PFG Head Elvira Kovacs stressed that her goal is to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, either at the level of parliamentary friendship groups or parliamentary committees, which would deepen the cooperation between the MPs. She briefly explained the National Assembly’s mode of operation, adding that the MPs would be starting the current legislature’s Seventh Extraordinary Session next week.

H.E. Susanne Shine took the opportunity to thank the Republic of Serbia for its offer of vaccination of the diplomatic corps, praising the excellent organisation in the mass vaccination against COVID-19. The Ambassador pointed out that Serbia and Denmark are very similar in both size and mentality, and that they can do a lot for each other. She said that Denmark supports the EU enlargement process, as well as the integration of the Republic of Serbia. Shine added that Denmark has a strong presence in Serbia in the form of Danish companies that successfully operate in the country and employ a large number of Serbian citizens. She went on to say that Denmark is strongly focused on green energy which is another type of cooperation that can be developed at the level of the two countries. She also said that Denmark has a sizeable Serbian community, which is excellently integrated in the society and greatly contributes to the Kingdom.

Kovacs stressed the need to organise an exchange of visits of high-level officials, adding that it is of great importance that the parliamentarians cooperate, both at the level of multilateral organisations and at the bilateral level. She informed the Ambassador that the process of European integration had been a challenge for Serbia in the past year and a half due to the global pandemic, however the National Assembly entered the process of changing the Constitution, which was one of the proposals of the European Union and the Venice Commission. She went on to inform the Ambassador that she was also the head of the European Integration Committee, one of whose primary tasks is to check the compliance of laws in the parliamentary procedure with the acquis communautaire.

The meeting was also attended by PFG members Dragomir Karic, Vuk Mircetic, Luka Kebara and Velibor Stanojlovic, who emphasised the importance of cooperation at the bilateral level, as well as the deepening of cooperation in the field of economy, agriculture, culture and sports.
