PFG with Azerbaijan Meets with Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia

The members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Azerbaijan met today with the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Serbia H.E. Eldar Hasanov to discuss the results of the cooperation in the last year.

The officials opined that the cooperation between the two countries is at a very high level, especially political and economic cooperation, as well as agricultural, and that the cooperation in the spheres of tourism and educations has been intensified.

The Head of the PFG with Azerbaijan Katarina Rakic thanked the Ambassador for Azerbaijan’s years of support of Serbia, especially its assistance during the May 2014 floods. She also emphasised the importance of Azerbaijan’s support of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity i.e. the non-recognition of the self-proclaimed independent Kosovo-Metohija in international organisations. Rakic added that all the contractual deadlines concerning the construction of corridor 11 have been, met which is a rare pleasure, as is the engagement of a great many Serbian workers and purchase of building material from domestic producers by the Azerbaijani company partnering Serbia in the construction of this section of the highway.

H.E. Eldar Hasanov said that the Republic of Serbia is a stable country now and a serious partner experiencing rapid economic growth. He said that bilateral and economic cooperation are at a high level, also hoping that trade would continue to develop. He added that the Republic of Azerbaijan is a true friend to Serbia that will continue to support its development through different projects and initiatives. He announces a visit by the Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker and the Head of the PFG with Serbia in May which will solidify the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. He also took the opportunity to inform the PFG members of the intention to organize a Business Forum this year which would promote economic cooperation between Serbian and Azerbaijani companies to mutual benefit.

Toward the end of the meeting the members of the PFG with Azerbaijan commended the projects aimed at improving the relations between the two countries, hoping that Azerbaijan would not support the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo’s UNESCO bid.
