The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Dr Nenad Stevandic. On the occasion, the two parliament speakers signed the Memorandum on the establishment of the Republic of Serbia - Republic Srpska Parliamentary Forum, which they agreed has historical significance for the further cooperation and fostering closeness between our people.
In the course of the meeting, Orlic and Stevandic discussed many current issues, including the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Srpska. They emphasised the importance of consistent compliance with all the provisions of the Dayton Agreement, with Orlic reaffirming Serbia’s readiness to support whatever comes as a result of an agreement between the two entities, that is the three constituent nations, but that it can never accept any imposition of a solution coming "from outside".
"We also talked about the difficult situation for the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, resulting from the open terror carried out by Albin Kurti, who with his Greater Albania policy not only represents the greatest danger to peace in the region, but has put himself in the active role of destroying any dialogue," said Dr Orlic.
"The President of the Republic will discuss these important issues with numerous officials at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and today, as speakers of the two parliaments, we want to jointly send the strongest support to President Aleksandar Vucic and our state delegation, for the fight he is leading to protect our state and national positions. Our people, both in the Republic of Serbia and in the Republic of Srpska and wherever they live, are always truly proud of that struggle," emphasised Orlic.
Stevandic said that the Memorandum they signed will guide the establishment of a joint body consisting of members of the two national assemblies, which will meet at least twice a year and adopt acts that will be sent to both parliaments.
"This is both essentially and formally the largest and most serious document we have signed, which is not directed against anyone, because it has no other connotation than cooperation, development, nurturing of common values, culture, tradition, as well as supporting each other in protecting both the territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the Dayton integrity and capacities and other competences of the Republic of Srpska," said Stevandic.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska took the opportunity to express his gratitude to National Assembly Speaker Dr Vladimir Orlic and the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic on his own behalf and on behalf of President Dodik, saying that the highest form of cooperation between the legislative bodies has been reached, which will for the first time make joint conclusions and recommendations, which will also have its own Rules of Procedure.
The two parliament speakers signed the on the establishment of the Republic of Serbia - Republic Srpska Parliamentary Forum. The signatories emphasised the importance of signing the Memorandum, which they said is a historically significant document, as it connects the two parliaments in a completely new and comprehensive way.
