Ninth Sitting of the Education Committee

At the ninth sitting, held on 2 February, the Education Committee discussed the National Education Council’s Activity Report for 2009. In the discussion, the Committee members made numerous objections stating that the Report is defective, that it gives an overview of the appalling state of education and that the National Education Council did not do its job well enough, because, among other things, it did not complete its main task – it did not pass an education strategy.

The Committee unanimously decided not to accept the National Education Council’s Activity Report for last year. Also, it unanimously ruled to propose that the National Assembly dismiss the erstwhile NEC President and nominate a new President of the National Education Council from among the newly elected members. It was agreed that a proposal of the Committee’s conclusions concerning the discussion of the Report be prepared for the next sitting.

At the sitting, the Committee also debated the nominees for new National Education Council members to be appointed by the National Assembly. They agreed to prepare an alphabetical list of candidates for the next sitting and propose the principles for the election of new National Education Council members.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Dr Zoran Sami.
