At the sitting held on 11 May 2021, the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee considered the Ministry of the Interior Internal Control 2020 Activity Report, Ministry of the Interior Activity Information for the period October – December 2020 and the Ministry of the Interior Report on the security situation in the Republic of Serbia for the period July – December 2020.
The reports and Information were presented by Minister of the Interior Aleksandra Vulin who stressed that in 2020, the internal control sector filed 146 criminal charges against 399 people, 209 of which were police officers and 190 private citizens, for 537 criminal acts committed, 425 of which had an element of corruption. In addition, 27 criminal charges were filed against Ministry leadership, which, Vulin says, proves that no one is protected.
The Minister pointed out that the cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office for Organised Crime, Public Prosecutor's Office and the Security-Information Agency is at an unprecedentedly high level. He stressed that, in the period of October-December 2020, overall, the crime rate on the territory of the Republic of Serbia went down by 10%, with domestic violence going down by 16%. 1,884 kilos of drugs were seized in the reporting period, said Minister Vulin emphasising that the Republic of Serbia’s position is clear - there will be no legalisation of marijuana, or any other type of narcotics.
Committee Chairman Aleksandar Markovic congratulated the Minister on the results, which, as he pointed out, are visible at every step and stressed that it will always have a reliable partner in the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee in their common task which is the fight against crime and corruption.
