National Assembly and UNICEF Continue Cooperation
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Director of UNICEF Serbia Deyana Kostadinova.
Dr Orlic praised UNICEF’s activities aimed at promoting and protecting children's rights, as well as improving their position in Serbia. The officials expressed their satisfaction with the past cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and UNICEF, especially the cooperation the organisation has enjoyed with the parliamentary Committee on the Rights of the Child for years.
In the course of the meeting, the officials discussed concrete steps to be taken within the implementation of the five-year Cooperation Program for the period 2021-2025, concerning social inclusion, immunisation programmes, demography and parenting support, in which, Kostadinova said, Serbia is a real example for all the countries in the region.
Dr Orlic stressed that significant progress was being made on all the abovementioned issues every year, at the same time confirming the readiness of the National Assembly and its committees to continue and intensify cooperation. "In accordance with the state policy we are implementing, Serbia is making constant progress in improving the rights and position of children. We are constantly raising the amounts of state benefits for both parents and children. We are constantly increasing wages and raising standards. Thanks to these measures, our country has been recording a decrease in the rate of poverty and social exclusion year after year. We are adopting and implementing new regulations to achieve inclusivity, as well as support measures for families with children, and we will continue to do so in the future," concluded Dr Orlic.
