The Chairman of the National Assembly, Predrag Markovic, and UNDP Resident Representative to Serbia, Lance Clark, today exchanged letters of understanding between the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the United Nations Development Programme.

At a ceremony held at the National Assembly, Mr Markovic reiterated that the exchange of the letters at the Assembly, the nation’s highest legislative body, should serve as reminder of the joint effort still needed to more quickly draft and implement legislation to change the quality of life and living standards of the people of Serbia.

Mr Clark expressed satisfaction at the continued co-operation between UNDP and the National Assembly, an institution representing all of Serbia’s citizens, and providing a key contribution to reforms of society as a whole through its legislative activity.

The letters of understanding provide for the participation of five Assembly Committees in the project of Civil Society Participation in Poverty Reduction, funded by the European Union through the European Agency for Reconstruction.

The ceremony was also attended by David Hudson, First Secretary of the Delegation of the European Commission to Serbia and Montenegro, and Christos Gofas, Deputy Head of Operations at the EAR’s Belgrade Office.
