National Assembly Standing Delegation Takes Part in PACE Winter Session

The standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will be taking part in the PACE Winter Session to be held in Strasbourg, 22 to 26 January 2024.


At the beginning of the session the Parliamentary Assembly elected its new President, Greek MP Theodoros Rousopoulos.

On the agenda are debates on recent developments in the Middle East: Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel and Israel’s response, and on allegations of systemic torture in places of detention in Europe. The parliamentarians will also hold a debate under urgent procedure on the situation of the children of Ukraine, with the online intervention of Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska.

The President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides and the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic, as well as the Prime Minister of Liechtenstein, Daniel Risch, will address the parliamentarians. In the course of the session the parliamentarians will also elect a new Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights.

Also on the agenda is a debate on globalisation in times of crises and war, and the role of the OECD since the Russian Federation's aggression against Ukraine, with the participation of OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann. Other debates include the theme of migration and asylum in the election campaign, as well as the prevention of child abuse.

On day one the Assembly held a debate on the report of Stefan Schennach on the early parliamentary elections in the Republic of Serbia. Delegation Head Biljana Pantic Pilja and Dunja Simonovic Bratic took part in the debate

The National Assembly delegation is headed by Biljana Pantic Pilja, and comprises Dubravka Filipovski, Elvira Kovacs, Dunja Simonovic Bratic and Tatjana Pasic.
