The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic is in official visit to Ankara today, at the invitation of the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Mehmet Ali Şahin. The NARS delegation also comprises deputies Bajram Omeragic, head of the Assembly’s Serbia-Turkey friendship group and Meho Omerovic, member of the parliamentary group.

The Serbian delegation met with the Turkish Parliament Speaker in a very friendly working atmosphere, in an exceptionally large presence of the media. Şahin was particularly pleased by the NARS Speaker’s visit to Turkey which he considered very important especially since it was the first visit by the Speaker of Serbia’s supreme legislative body to Turkey.

“Serbian-Turkish relations have reached the highest level in the history of bilateral relations, something that the reciprocal visits by the highest Serbian and Turkish dignitaries had contributed to”, stressed Şahin, which Djukic-Dejanovic agreed with.

The National Assembly Speaker commended the excellent parliamentary relations, particularly on the level of friendship groups, adding that cooperation between parliamentary committees in charge of foreign affairs, European integration and economy could improve the relations considerably, as well as give a special impulse to the strengthening of overall bilateral relations.

‘The similarity of the two nations’ mentalities is the most important bridge to both cooperation between Serbia and Turkey and stronger stability in the region”, stressed Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic. Agreeing with the NARS Speaker’s view on strengthening regional stability, the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly added that Turkey also applauds the adoption of the Srebrenica Resolution by the Serbian Parliament.
