National Assembly Speaker at the Conference of Speakers of European Union Parliaments in Budapest
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, is taking part in the Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of European Union Member States "European Future", that began today in Budapest.
The Conference was opened by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly László Kövér who spoke of the challenges Europe is faced with.
The National Assembly Speaker will participate in the panel entitled "Closer to Voters: Regionalism in Europe and Safeguarding Europe's Cultural Identity". Mr. Lorenzo Fontana, President of the Chamber of
Deputies of Italy, and Ms. Maja Riniker, President of the National Council of Switzerland, will also speak at the panel.
At the margins of the two-day conference, Brnabic will also have a series of bilateral meetings the topics sf which are expected to be European integration, improvement 0of bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation.
The Conference of Speakers of European Union Parliaments is the highest forum for cooperation between European national parliaments, with the main function of defining the framework and strategic goals for interparliamentary cooperation.
The first Conference of Speakers was held in Rome in 1963, while the meetings became regular after 1975, with the aim to encourage the importance of the role of the parliaments.
The Conference is organised annually, in the first half of the year. Participants are the Speakers of the 27 European parliaments and the Speaker of the European Parliament.
