National Assembly Speaker at Session of Serbian Government Council for European Integration

Serbia must not miss the chance it was given by gaining EU candidate status, which should be used toward overall improvements in the state, said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic at the session of the Serbian Government Council for European Integration.

The National Assembly Speaker stressed that candidate status is just one step toward full EU membership. The intense efforts which brought about the candidacy should be continued so that Serbia may reach its goal – EU accession. Djukic Dejanovic emphasised the role the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia played in gaining candidate status.

“The epithets attributed to the Parliament as an institution ranged from a possible black hole in the European integration process to that of the driving power behind said integration", stated the Speaker adding that the National Assembly would continue to pursue its goals in the same manner as the current legislature.
“I feel deeply responsible for what is to take place from this day on. The candidate status is just one step, and our goal is full EU membership”, concluded the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic.
