National Assembly Speaker and German Bundestag Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid Committee Chairperson

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with a delegation of the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid of the German Bundestag, headed by Chairperson Renata Alt.

Dr Orlic informed the Bundestag delegation in detail about the latest explosion of extreme violence against the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, demanding an urgent response from the international community which would guarantee the safety of the Serbs. "We are faced with the fact that, in terms of human rights, the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija are threatened like no other on European soil and ethnically motivated attacks on Serbs have numbered in the hundreds since Albin Kurti came to power in Pristina," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

He pointed out that the situation in Kosovo-Metohija is extremely difficult. "Serbs are beaten, arrested, Kurti's special forces shoot at them using live ammunition, just like they shot at our children on Christmas Eve," stressed the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, adding that, in addition to physical violence, our people suffer violence in every sense of the word. "Having conducted so-called "elections" in local areas where only Serbs live, completely without any participation of Serbs, Pristina proceeded to forcefully establish authority. There is no democracy, no human rights - only terror," said Dr Orlic, concluding: "It is important for us that everyone understands the gravity of the situation, that they clearly condemn the violence and that they appeal with their authority to ensure peace and stability. It is clear to everyone who is to blame for what is happening - it is only Kurti".

The Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid of the German Bundestag said that Germany is closely following the events in Kosovo-Metohija and condemns any form of violence, and that it will continue to support dialogue.
