National Assembly Speaker and Armenian Prime Minister Discuss Economic Cooperation
On the second day of her official visit to Armenia, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met with Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan.
The officials agreed that the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries could stand to be improved, especially in the fields of economy and trade.
They also discussed the improvement of the contractual base which they opined would boost trade between the countries.
Abrahamyan said he recognised the importance of more active economic and cultural cooperation, stressing that there is ample potential to strengthen economic ties.
Gojkovic also met with Catholicos Karekin II and on the occasion commended the close relationship and cooperation between the Serbian and Armenian Church in view of the two peoples’ historical and spiritual closeness.
Gojkovic said that Serbia is grateful to Armenia for voting against so-called Kosovo’s UNESCO bid, reminding that in the last 10 years around 150 churches and monasteries had been destroyed, damaged and desecrated, 60% of which have the status of cultural monument.
Catholicos Karekin II said that the Armenian people understand and sympathise with the suffering of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija and advocated mutual support.
Yesterday, Gojkovic spoke with Armenian Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan, at whose invitation she came to visit Armenia, followed by a meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.
The Head of the Serbia-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Aleksandar Cotric is also part of the National Assembly delegation.
