National Assembly Speaker Visits Hungary

In her one-day official visit to the Republic of Hungary, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic was received today by the Hungarian President Laslo Solyom.



In her one-day official visit to the Republic of Hungary, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic was received today by the Hungarian President Laslo Solyom.

In a cordial and open talk, President Solyom emphasised that Hungary is prepared to support Serbia’s easier and speedier accession to the European Union, based on its own experiences.

Thanking for the hospitality, the Speaker of the National Assembly stressed that the visit to Hungary is an important step towards extending the cooperation between the two countries, and above all furthering parliamentary cooperation.

In the Hungarian Parliament, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic was received by Parliamentary Speaker Katalin Sili. The Framework Partnership Agreement between the National Assembly of the Republic of Hungary and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia was signed on the occasion, which should contribute to the improvement of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries and render the cooperation transparent.

Parliament Speaker Katalin Sili thanked Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic on her decision to choose the Hungarian Parliament for her first official visit to a neighbouring country. She stressed the importance of close cooperation of the two countries in the field of minority politics, putting special emphasis on trans-border cooperation.

The National Assembly Speaker expressed her pleasure at the signing of the agreement and expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation, stressing that the Framework Agreement represents a model of cooperation and communication with other countries, too. She extended an invitation to the Parliament Speaker Sili to visit Serbia, which was readily accepted.

In the continuation of the visit, Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic talked to the representatives of the Serbian minority self-government at the Serbian Embassy in Budapest.
