National Assembly Speaker Talks to Swiss Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, received the newly appointed Swiss Ambassador to Serbia, Erwin Helmut Hofer, with whom she discussed the possibilities for the improvement of parliamentary cooperation.

Ambassador Hofer conveyed the Swiss Parliament’s invitation for a delegation of the Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly to visit the Swiss Parliament, i.e. their counterparts in the Swiss Parliament. He stated that three important international institutions dealing with security and cooperation issues have their seats in Geneva, among them the Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces which is interested in continuing its cooperation with Serbia.

He stressed that Switzerland considers Serbia an important partner and is ready to help Serbia on its way to the European Union.

The National Assembly Speaker applauded the proposed meeting between the delegations of the two countries’ defense committees, stressing that strengthening security and fighting crime are Serbia’s priorities. She also pointed out that cooperation on the issue with parliaments of other countries and other international institutions is welcome.

Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic wished the new Swiss Ambassador success and expressed the belief that the visit of Serbian parliamentarians to the Swiss Parliament will help improve the overall cooperation between the two friendly countries.
