Today at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received a delegation of the Swedish Parliament, headed by its Deputy Speaker Jan Björkman. Deputy Speaker Björkman informed Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic of Sweden’s interest in Serbia, primarily regarding its European integration process.
Today at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received a delegation of the Swedish Parliament, headed by its Deputy Speaker Jan Björkman.
Deputy Speaker Björkman informed Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic of Sweden’s interest in Serbia, primarily regarding its European integration process. He stressed that Sweden advocated the expansion of the European Union emphasising that this community of countries was expecting Serbia in the near future. He added the Swedish Parliament’s great interested in cooperation with Serbia which is evidenced in the formation of a friendship group.
Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic thanked Deputy Speaker Björkman for its country’s principled support of Serbia on its road to European integration. She outlined the National Assembly’s results for the Swedish delegation members, stressing that the Government and parliamentary majority’s main priorities were the struggle to maintain the country’s territorial integrity, following the map of the road of the European Union, fighting organised crime and corruption and ensuring the best possible economic position for the Serbian citizens. She also added that the Government and the National Assembly work in synergy to achieve these goals. Talking about the National Assembly’s legislative activity the Speaker announced that the current convocation had passed 227 laws and more than 70 other documents in the last year. She stressed that the National Assembly was working on the adoption of three types of laws, viz. pro-European laws harmonising Serbian and EU legislation, systemic laws, as well as various agreements concerned with Serbia’s economic positions. She added that its further work was aimed at strengthening the parliament’s monitoring role by passing the National Assembly Act and achieving financial independence. The Speaker emphasised that the Serbia-Sweden friendship group at the National Assembly comprised 26 deputies which were expected to activate a more intense cooperation between the two parliaments. The Speaker also announced that the Bill on Determining the Jurisdiction and Statute of AP Vojvodina would be discussed and adopted soon.
The talk between the Assembly Speaker and Swedish parliamentary delegation was dominated by topics relating to the adopted laws and monitoring their implementation, above all in the spheres of fighting crime and discrimination, gender equality, environment and regionalisation.
