National Assembly Speaker Talks to OSCE Secretary General

Today, at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia , Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, in official visit to the Republic of Serbia on 16 and 17 December 2009. Regarding the announcement of a possible meeting between the OSCE Secretary General and the so-called officials of the so-called state of Kosovo, the NARS Speaker stated: “It is unacceptable for Serbia that a delegation of the OSCE Mission should meet the officials of the inexistent state of Kosovo”, focusing on the founding principles of the Mission.

Regarding the announcement of a possible meeting between the OSCE Secretary General and the so-called officials of the so-called state of Kosovo, the NARS Speaker stated: “It is unacceptable for Serbia that a delegation of the OSCE Mission should meet the officials of the inexistent state of Kosovo”, focusing on the founding principles of the Mission.

Among other things, the officials discussed the work of the National Assembly and harmonisation of domestic with European legislation. On the occasion, the Serbian National Assembly Speaker informed the Secretary General of the laws and other documents adopted this year, whose implementation ensures a better standard for the citizens of the Republic of Serbia.

Both sides agreed that the OSCE Mission should continue its efforts in the region with the goal of finding a lasting solution to the issue of refugees which is one of Serbia’s priorities.

Expressing gratitude for the OSCE Mission’s assistance so far, the Assembly Speaker also expressed an expectation that the OSCE would continue to assist Serbia in fulfilling its obligations from the Roadmap. Also, Djukic-Dejanovic proposed to De Brichambaut that after the adoption of the National Assembly Act, the OSCE Mission should assist the education of parliamentarians and employees of the Serbian Assembly’s support services, in order to raise the surveillance role to a higher level.

The Serbian Parliament Speaker restated her pleasure at the fact that the 20th Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly would be held in Belgrade in July 2011, at the initiative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
