Today, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received the Speaker of the Macedonian Parliament (Sobranie) Trajko Veljanoski, head of a parliamentary delegation in a two-day visit to Serbia.

The National Assembly Speaker and the Macedonian Sobranie Speaker emphasised the importance of parliamentary cooperation for the deepening of economic and political relations between the two friendly neighbouring countries.

Parliament Speaker Veljanoski stressed how important it is for both Macedonia and Serbia that visas for their citizens travelling into European Union countries be abolished this year, which is the recommendation of European institutions. He said that his country expects that, by the end of the year, a date shall be set for the commencement of talks on European Union membership.

The Sobranie Speaker also expressed an expectation that Serbia will make progress on its road to the EU. The National Assembly Speaker spoke in favour of intensifying inter-parliamentary cooperation through the cooperation of committees and friendship groups and sharing of experience in adoption of certain legal acts.
