National Assembly Speaker Talks to Luxembourg Foreign Minister

National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic continued his official two-day visit to Luxembourg by meeting with Jean Asselborn, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister


The meeting focused on a series of issues starting from the wish for more intense cooperation and harmonisation of opinions on significant foreign policy issues, at the same time declaring the dialogue between the two countries satisfactory, then, exchanging opinions as regards addressing the issue and negotiations on Kosovo-Metohija, to the Luxembourg diplomacy’s potentials for discussing the progress of the new government and parliament as regards meeting the criteria necessary to be granted a date to launch negotiations with the European Union.
Minister Asselborn said that Luxembourg considers Serbia the most important country of the Western Balkans and was therefore very interested in the negotiations on Kosovo conducted in Brussels and the degree of political will to continue the political dialogue with Pristina, in light of the acquittals in The Hague.
NARS Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic said that international justice and the very concept of justice have been threatened by the acquittals of the Croatian generals and Ramush Haradinaj which would undoubtedly influence the process of reconciliation in the region. On the other had, Stefanovic stated that Serbia continues with specific steps and proposals which would, in the course of negotiations, normalise the lives of all the citizens and resolve practical issues, stressing that Serbia would not recognise Kosovo nor abolish its institutions in the north of the Province. Stefanovic thanked the head of diplomacy of Luxembourg on the constant support offered to Serbia in the Euro-integration process, asking for continuation of said support in the wish to receive a starting date for the negotiations as soon as possible.
