Today at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received H. E. Dimosthenis Stoidis, newly appointed Ambassador of Greece to the Republic of Serbia. Ambassador Stoidis conveyed the greetings of the Greek Parliament Speaker to Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic, inviting her to the meeting of the Ionian Initiative to be held in May in Athens.
Today at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received H.E. Dimosthenis Stoidis, newly appointed Ambassador of Greece to the Republic of Serbia.
Ambassador Stoidis conveyed the greetings of the Greek Parliament Speaker to Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic, inviting her to the meeting of the Ionian Initiative to be held in May in Athens. He informed Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic about the formation of a friendship group with Serbia at the Greek Parliament and the initiative to hold the first meeting of the group this year in Greece. He also stressed that his country will continue to fully support Serbia on its road of accession to the European Union.
Both officials agreed that Greek investors should be encouraged to continue investing in Serbia, and Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic stressed that the National Assembly’s legislative activity is aimed at creating conditions conducive to investment security.
Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic thanked Ambassador Stoidis for the Greek principled position on the issue of Serbia’s territorial integrity, and its support of the idea to shift the issue of Kosovo-Metohija from the field of politics to that of international law. The Assembly Speaker pointed out that Serbia’s main goals are strengthening the country’s state and national interest, intensifying all activities relating to accession to the European Union, improving the citizens’ public status and fighting crime. The Assembly Speaker also stressed that cooperation with parliaments of close countries is extremely important for the development of parliamentary democracy in Serbia. She advocated strengthening cooperation between the National Assembly and the Parliament of the Republic of Greece, on both the level of parliamentary friendship groups and the level of working bodies, particularly European integration and foreign affairs committees.
