National Assembly Speaker Talks to Cuban Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, received today, at the National Assembly House, H.



The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, received today, at the National Assembly House, H.E. Mercedes Martinez Valdes, newly-appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Republic of Serbia.

Ambassador Valdes outlined her country’s electoral and parliamentary system for the National Assembly Speaker. She advocated deepening parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Cuba by enabling their respective deputies’ to share experiences and ideas on both the level of working bodies and friendship groups. She informed the National Assembly Speaker that a Friendship Group with Serbia, comprising six deputies, had been created at the Cuban Parliament. The Ambassador added that more intense cooperation between the two parliaments’ committees in the spheres of medicine, agriculture, education, culture and gender equality can be greatly beneficial to the development of the two countries’ bilateral relations.

The National Assembly Speaker stated that, though geographically distant and different, Serbia and Cuba enjoy traditionally friendly relations. She said that cooperation between their respective parliaments should deepen the two countries’ overall bilateral relations, adding that cooperation in the fields of science and health care can be greatly beneficial for both countries.

Ambassador Valdez once again invited Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic to visit Cuba as head of a National Assembly delegation, for which the Assembly Speaker extended her most heartfelt gratitude.
