National Assembly Speaker Talks to Chinese Ambassador

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republicof Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Wei Jinghua.


The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republicof Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Wei Jinghua. Ambassador Wei Jinghua conveyed the congratulations of the allChinese National Congress to Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic on her election for National Assembly Speaker, expressing their desire for furthering the cooperation and friendship of the two countries and nations. In the conversation it was deemed that the traditionally good relations between Serbiaand Chinaare on a continual rise, particularly concerning strengthening the political dialogue, and that there are no open issues between the two countries. They stressed the continuity of foreign policy cooperation between the two countries based on mutual understanding and respect, equality and noninterference in internal affairs of other states, adding that the countries have identical or similar opinions concerning the most important international and internal issues. The Chinese Ambassador emphasised that China, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council strives for the compliance with and implementation of the United Nations legal acts and lends full support to Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to the ambassador, Chinabelieves that the future status of Kosovo-Metohija must be resolved in an agreement between the two sides and in line with the principles of international law, thus it has not recognized Kosovo-Metohija’s unilateral declaration of independence.

The Ambassador also stressed that his country highly values Serbia’s principled support of the “one China” policy, stating that Taiwanis its constituent part, and also supports the Chinese Government’s Tibetpolicy. He stressed that Chinasupports Serbia’s political stability, its development and economic strengthening and its European integration. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic briefed the Chinese Ambassador on Serbia’s priorities in the upcoming period (maintaining the country’s integrity, road to European integration, further economic and social reform). She expressed gratitude on the principled policy concerning issues significant for Serbia. She particularly pointed out the need to strengthen and improve parliamentary cooperation between Serbiaand PR China via parliamentary friendship groups and the Assembly’s committees and bodies. As representative of the Olympic Games host country, the Chinese Ambassador wished the Serbian sportsmen success and good results, stressing that this is also an opportunity to improve the relations and strengthen the friendship between the nations.
