The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia , Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic talked to a Bundestag delegation headed by deputy Alexander Ulrich.

Ulrich briefed the National Assembly Speaker on the Bundestag’s support programme that offered scholarships to five young people from the Republic of Serbia who would spend five months in a study visit to the Bundestag and the Technical University of Berlin gaining experience of the operation and functioning of the German Parliament.

The National Assembly Speaker was grateful for the opportunity and the Bundestag’s initiative to support five young people from Serbia, stressing that it was a great honour to be the patron of the programme on the behalf of the National Assembly. “Serbia is a country with a young democracy and gaining experience in this manner will greatly contribute to the development of parliamentary democracy in Serbia”, Djukic-Dejanovic stated.

In the meeting, the officials agreed in the estimate that after their visit to the Bundestag, the young people could be a bridge for future cooperation between the two parliaments, which was deemed very successful.

Ulrich was pleased at and congratulated the Republic of Serbia on its successful progress in the European integration process, stressing that visa liberalisation and the commencement of the implementation of the Transitional Trade Agreement was a big step towards Serbia’s further integration into the European Union.
