National Assembly Speaker Talks to AP Vojvodina Assembly Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, received today the AP Vojvodina Assembly Speaker Sandor Egeresi, with whom she spoke of the Statute of Vojvodina.



The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, received today the AP Vojvodina Assembly Speaker Sandor Egeresi, with whom she spoke of the Statute of Vojvodina.

At the beginning of the talk, Assembly Speaker Egeresi stressed that the Vojvodina Assembly had adopted the Statute thee months ago and wanted to know when the document might be included in an agenda for a parliamentary session.

Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic stressed that discussing the Statute of AP Vojvodina is on of the National Assembly’s most important tasks in the upcoming period and that it will probably be on the agenda at the beginning of the regular sessions in March. The National Assembly Speaker also reminded all present of the Government’s obligation to previously propose modifications to the 2002 Law Establishing Particular Competencies of the Autonomous Provinces, in order to harmonise the act with the Serbian Constitution.

Both sides expressed a belief that this is a document that will expediate the process of Serbia’s regionalisation and its European integration. The AP Vojvodina Assembly Speaker proposed a media action to bring the content of the Statute closer to the Serbian citizens. Egeresi stressed that he is prepared to visit Serbian towns and speak frankly with the citizens so as to demonstrate the importance of the document not only for Vojvodina but Serbia as well.

Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic also stressed that passing a good statute means a chance for Serbia, that the Statute does not have elements of statehood, and that regionalisation is one the goals of Serbia’s europeanisation.
