Today at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic and the United Nations Development Programme Acting Resident Representative, Rini Reza, signed the project document “Strengthening the Control Function of the Serbian Parliament”, aiming to stimulate the strengthening of the National Assembly’s capacities and its responsibility towards the citizens of Serbia, as well as the Parliament’s supervising function.
Addressing the guests, the National Assembly Speaker reminded them that the United Nations Development Fund has cooperated well with the Serbian Parliament since 2004, primarily assisting its supervising and legislative activity, and is now turning towards aiding the projects for strengthening the parliament’s responsibilities and functions. This a contract on continued cooperation which will include not only the work of the deputies and certain services, but also knowing who to communicate with in order to best realise those functions, the Assembly Speaker said.
The UN Development Programme representative Rini Reza stressed that only the spirit of partnership can secure the mission – better life for Serbian citizens, poverty reduction, as well as success in the fight against corruption in the country. The Assembly has a special role on the country’s path of development, particularly in the transitional period and in light of the economic crisis. People are worried for their living standard and the success of the fight against corruption, Reza said at the meeting at the National Assembly House.
The signing ceremony was attended by the representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organisations and independent bodies appointed by the Parliament, as well as assembly committee chairpeople and National Assembly Service sector heads.
