National Assembly Speaker Signs Declaration on Rights of Women in Afghanistan

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic signed the Declaration on the Rights of Women in Afghanistan on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

The document confirming the commitment to the right of Afghan women to education was signed by 20 parliament speakers, including the French Yael Braun-Pivet, European Parliament’s Roberta Metsola and former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

According to UNESCO data, 80% of Afghan women of school age, i.e. 2.5 million of them, are deprived of the right to education, and the meeting sent a message that Afghan girls cannot be deprived of this universal and fundamental right.
