The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia , Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic talked today to the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Belgrade, H.E. Ahmet Suha Umar.

The Ambassador conveyed the greetings of the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mehmet Ali Sahin and invited the Serbian Assembly Speaker, on his behalf, to make an official visit at the beginning of next year.

Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic expressed gratitude at the invitation, stressing that the upcoming visit on the level of the two countries’ parliamentary speakers would help improve interparliamentary relations. The officials agreed on the great importance of the regional aspect of cooperation for the further development of economic relations between Serbia and Turkey.

Despite their disaccord on the issue of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija, both sides agreed that it should not damage the spirit of togetherness and perspectives for further development of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the context of mutual support in the European integration process.

Declaring the Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s recent visit to Serbia and his meeting with the President of the Republic of Serbia Boris Tadic a key step for furthering friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the Assembly Speaker added that she expected further realisation of the announced investments by Turkish businessmen into Serbia in the interest of Serbian citizens.
