National Assembly Speaker Receives Milutin Milankovic Society Delegation

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received a delegation of the civic society Milutin Milankovic, headed by its president MSc Slavko Maksimovic.



The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received a delegation of the civic society Milutin Milankovic, headed by its president MSc Slavko Maksimovic.

This year commemorates the 130th anniversary of the birth of Milutin Milankovic and 100th anniversary of his arrival at the University of Belgrade. On the occasion, the Government of the Republic of Serbia declared 2009 the Year of Milutin Milankovic.

The president of the Society informed the National Assembly Speaker of the activities of the Society created with the goal of popularising Milutin Milankovic and his work, valorisation of his scientific efforts and contribution to world science and saving one of the greatest Serbian scientists from oblivion. As part of its activities the Society members also made a short documentary “Traveler through the Cosmos and Centuries” and a feature film “Milutin Milankovic – Traveler through the Cosmos and Centuries”. In the meeting, Maksimovic proposed to the National Assembly Speaker that the Parliament should join the commemoration of Milankovic’s jubilees.

The National Assembly Speaker expressed gratitude and pleasure at the efforts the Society members put into preserving Milutin Milankovic’s scientific work and lectures. She stressed that the Society’s enthusiasm sends a message to the deputies and citizens that Serbia has real values that remain for future generations of talented young people.
