National Assembly Speaker Receives Italian Senate Delegation
National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic received a delegation of the Italian Senate today, headed by the Chairman of the Committee on EU Policies, Vannino Chiti, and on the occasion thanked Italy and its Senate for their strong and continuous support of Serbia’s Euro-integration efforts.
Gojkovic thanked the Italian Senate for the adoption of the Resolution asking the EU to open the negotiation chapters with Serbia and appealing to the Italian Government to make the effort and ensure that the EU institutions support the accession process.
Senator Chiti said that all the political powers in Italy are united in their support of Serbia’s progress toward Europe, evidenced in the adoption of the Resolution on the opening of negotiation chapters with Serbia.
Chiti stressed that Serbia and Italy enjoy excellent bilateral relations adding that, besides the political and cultural ties, Italy is also interested in developing tighter economic relations.
Gojkovic and Chiti discussed concretizing and intensifying cooperation at the parliamentary level. The Senator suggested periodic meetings between the two parliaments’ respective committees dealing with EU issues, which the Serbian Assembly Speaker heartily endorsed.
