The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, received today the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Serbia, Seyed Morteza Mir Heidari.

The Iranian Ambassador stressed that the new convocations of the Iranian and Serbian parliaments should realise a closer cooperation thus contributing to the improvement of overall relations of the two countries, which is in their mutual interest. He stressed that the Iranian economy is open to cooperation with the Serbian economy and that there are conditions and capacities to significantly raise the volume of exchange between the two countries. Concerning this, the Ambassador informed the Speaker that a delegation of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Mining is coming for talks next week.

The Speaker of the National Assembly thanked the Iranian Ambassador for Iran’s support in the vote at the UN General Assembly on the Resolution Proposal by which Serbia requested that the International Court of Justice rule on the legality of Kosovo-Metohija’s self-declared independence. Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic emphasised that it is a political bonding point between Serbia and Iran and a good basis for the improvement of overall relations between the two countries.

Both officials deemed that inter-parliamentary cooperation should be intensified via friendship groups, exchange of parliamentary delegations and various types of cooperation between committees and other working bodies of the two parliaments. The Speaker of the National Assembly extended an invitation to the Iranian Parliament Speaker to visit Serbia.
