Today, at the National Assembly House, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic opened a simulated parliamentary session for the students of several high schools from Serbia.

The Simulated National Assembly session project is the result of a one-year cooperation between the National Assembly and the Ministry of Education, Faculty of Political Science and OSCE Mission to Serbia. The session was organised with the goal of informing high school students about the legislative process in full, through a simulation as a modern interactive educational means.

Greeting the high school students from Loznica, Smederevo and Belgrade, the National Assembly Speaker stressed that the participants in the project will be able to learn about all the levels of work of the highest legislative institution in Serbia, from drafting amendments to plenary discussion and voting on a law. The mutual goal of the project organisers is to provide practical knowledge on the parliament and legislative activity for young people who have not yet embarked on political life, stated Assembly Speaker Djukic-Dejanovic.

Minister of Education, Zarko Obradovic told the students that they should be timely briefed on the work of the highest state authorities so that they could improve their work in future.

The Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Hans Ola Urstad, reminded the students of the three main functions of the parliament: adopting laws, controlling the Government’s activities and passing the budget.

The participants of the project, high school students, then held a simulated National Assembly session, with the Hazardous Gas Emissions Reduction Bill on the agenda.
