National Assembly Speaker Opens Exhibition “Messages on the Hand – Inscriptions on Medieval Rings”

National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic opened the National Museum exhibition “Messages on the Hand – Inscriptions on Medieval Rings” at the National Assembly House.

The assembly was addressed by the Director of the National Museum Bojana Boric Breskovic who said that the medieval rings, precious artefacts from the Museum’s collection, should draw attention to the high quality of the material and high level of craftsmanship achieved by Serbian medieval goldsmiths. She said that the selected items illustrate the historical and artistic processes, shed light on the personal status they convey, adding that they are exceptional pieces of art that offer an exceptional museum experience. The Director of the National Museum thanked the National Assembly and Speaker Maja Gojkovic for the initiative to exhibit this small but important segment of Serbia’s heritage in the halls of the supreme legislative House.
The National Assembly Speaker said she was especially pleased to be able to see part of Serbia’s cultural heritage in the National Assembly House, an edifice which is itself a cultural monument. Speaker Gojkovic said that the National Assembly and the National Museum have cooperated successfully in the past, however this is the first time that part of the cultural treasure from the National Museum’s collection is exhibited in the National Assembly House. The Speaker said that the rings of medieval rulers and nobility and their messages can bring medieval life closer to today’s generations, as well as the thoughts and feelings of their ancestors. She thanked the National Museum for taking care of Serbia’s history and culture despite the difficult situation it is in, adding that she was sure it would not be long before the Museum opens up to the public after more than a decade, as announced by the Prime Minister and Minister of Culture.
