National Assembly Speaker Opens Exhibition Sari: the Magic of Indian Weaves

National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic opened the exhibition “Sari: the Magic of Indian Weaves” co-organised by the National Assembly and the Indian Embassy in Belgrade.

Opening the exhibition the National Assembly Speaker said that by organising the exhibition “Sari: the Magic of Indian Weaves” the National Assembly has demonstrated its commitment to foster ties between people across the globe. Though geographically remote, she said, India is historically, politically and culturally quite close to Serbia.

“The friendship between our two countries obliges us to learn more about one another and strengthen our ties through culture. The importance of the exhibition is all the greater in view of the fact that the sari is a unique, timeless heritage with the endless power of rediscovery, which has been the image of India throughout its long history”, said the National Assembly Speaker.

Indian Ambassador to Serbia, H.E. Narinder Chauhan thanked the National Assembly Speaker for the opportunity to have the exhibition at the Parliament. She informed the guests about the exhibits, after which she and Speaker Gojkovic lit candles thus opening the exhibition in the traditional Indian manner.
