National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic Receives H.E. Roman Waschuk, Canadian Ambassador

H.E. Roman Waschuk, Canadian Ambassador to Serbia stated that the session of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Quebec, Canada, that the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Nebojsa Stefanovic will attend and actively participate in, will be an excellent opportunity to promote interparliamentary cooperation between Canada and Serbia.

He suggested organising meetings with Canadian officials, at an appropriate level, at the margins of the international gathering in Quebec, as well as contacts which would stimulate economic cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Waschuk informed Speaker Stefanovic that twelve Canadian mining companies are operating in Serbia at the moment, researching the potential for exploiting various mineral resources. In addition, the Canadian companies, both alone and in cooperation with other foreign companies, are included in energy programmes, which has led, says Ambassador Waschuk, to a dynamic development of economic cooperation and investment into Serbia. He noted that Canada invests into the production economy in Serbia.
Both noted that Canada exhibits constant economic growth, which makes it one of the most lucrative countries from which to attract investments into Serbia.
National Assembly Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic declared the Canadian investments welcome since they are not politically conditioned. Speaker Stefanovic noted that Serbia is in a very delicate economic situation, caused by budgetary overspending in the previous period, so that the new government is simultaneously trying to reduce expenditure and fulfill its financial obligations.
Ambassador Waschuk announced the preparation of a draft memorandum of cooperation in the sphere of energy production between the two countries.
