National Assembly Speaker Meets with US Ambassador to Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Ambassador of the United States of America Christopher Hill, with whom he discussed bilateral issues, the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and whom he informed about the difficult security situation and the position of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija.

Dr Orlic stressed that Serbia will, as before, remain committed to dialogue, preserving peace and stability for all, at the same time demanding that the Community of Serb Municipalities be finally formed. Ambassador Hill said that, ten years after the signing of the Brussels Agreement, the implementation of the Community of Serb Municipalities is necessary in order to restore trust in the international community and ensure the future of the Serbian community. He also welcomed Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s responsible approach at the meeting held in Ohrid as part of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

Hill reaffirmed the US support for Serbia’s European path, once again praising the "Open Balkans" initiative, deeming it extremely important for the economic progress of the entire region and its faster integration into the EU. He said that the US sees Serbia as a reliable partner and that the two countries have the potential to achieve concrete and significant results in numerous fields in the future, based on mutual respect and appreciation.

In the course of the meeting, the officials also talked about furthering ties at the parliamentary level, as well as improving cooperation in the economy and all spheres of mutual interest, which would give a strong impetus to the strengthening of bilateral and political relations between the two countries.
