National Assembly Speaker Meets with Slovenian Prime Minister

A delegation of the National Assembly headed by the Speaker, Dr Nebojsa Stefanovic received a delegation of the Republic of Slovenia headed by Alenka Bratusek.

The officials highlighted the excellent cooperation on Serbia’s Euro-integration process, improvement of relations in the region and economic cooperation via reciprocal investments.
They underlined the importance of interparliamentary relations for the Euro-integration process and in the economic sphere.
The visit was declared important for the further development of cooperation especially as regards signing an agreement on joint ventures onto third markets and speeding up the issue of succession.
The National Assembly Speaker thanked Slovenia for its constant support of the Euro-integration process. The officials agreed that the Euro-integration process provides the opportunity for an overall strengthening of the Parliament as an oversight institution. To that end, Speaker Stefanovic suggested closer cooperation with the Slovenian Parliament especially as regards sharing the experience gained in the negotiations process.
Stefanovic was also pleased that the recent initiatives launched with the Slovenian officials, particularly during the visit of the President of the Slovenian National Assembly, Janko Veber, have been realised, among them most notably regional cooperation projects and ventures onto third markets.
Slovenian Prime Minister Alenka Bratusek reaffirmed Slovenia’s support of Serbia’s Euro-integration, declaring the two countries’ relations very good but adding that there is always room for improvement, especially in the sphere of economy. Bratusek invited Serbian investors to invest into Slovenia.
Speaking of cooperation on Serbia’s Euro-integration, Bratusek said that though everything is not always easy in the European Union, there is no alternative and added that Slovenia is ready to share its experiences both good and bad with Serbia so that it would not repeat Slovenia’s mistakes on the road to Euro-integration. The Slovenian Prime Minister thanked the parliamentary officials for the reception on the behalf of her delegation and concluded that, historically, the two countries share many a common experience.
