National Assembly Speaker Meets with Greek Foreign Minister

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with former colleague, Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias, currently in a bilateral visit to Belgrade.

The National Assembly Speaker said that the relations between Serbia and Greece are traditionally friendly, stressing that the bilateral cooperation has reached the highest level of strategic partnership and that close cooperation flourishes across the board. He opined that the cooperation between the two parliaments is very good, reminding his guest that a parliamentary friendship group with Greece was formed immediately after the constitution of the National Assembly, adding that the Memorandum on the establishment of the National Assembly - Hellenic Parliament Cooperation Commission signed in 2017 provided the groundwork needed to promote parliamentary cooperation.

Minister Dendias said he was very pleased to be meeting with his long-standing colleague with whom he had the opportunity to cooperate as both foreign minister and minister of the interior. Dendias said that the strategic partnership between Serbia and Greece was formalised before the pandemic and that the two countries can now develop stronger and more comprehensive cooperation in practically all areas. He stressed that Greece is ready to continue and intensify activities related to the strategic partnership once Serbia constitutes its new parliament and government.

The officials also exchanged opinions on the political situation in Europe and the region, advancing economic cooperation and Serbia’s European integration process, and Minister Dendias underlined that, on its European path, Serbia can always count on Greek support to overcome any difficulties and speed up the process.
