National Assembly Speaker Meets with German Ambassador to Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met with German Ambassador to Serbia Thomas Schieb today to discuss the current situation in Europe and the Western Balkans and the further development of Serbian-German bilateral relations.

National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic expressed satisfaction that the bilateral relations between Serbia and Germany are at a very high level, as evidenced by the intensive exchange of visits of the two countries’ high officials, adding that Serbia is open and ready for further development of cooperation, economic in particular.

The Assembly Speaker also stressed that EU membership remains Serbia's foreign policy priority and that Serbia is ready to continue with the process of necessary reforms when conditions allow, hoping that it would have Germany's support along the way.

In the course of the conversation, Ambassador Schieb noted that the Western Balkans is an area of special importance for the EU, adding that Germany continues to support Serbia’s European integration process and advocate the continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. In light of the current global crisis, the German Ambassador welcomed Serbia's decisions during the recent UN votes, as well as the decision to send humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

At Ambassador Schieb’s interest, National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic informed his guest about the legal deadlines to convene the next parliament and form the other state bodies.
