National Assembly Speaker Meets with European Commissioner for Enlargement

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, met today in Belgrade with the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.

Speaker Brnabic thanked Commissioner Kos for visiting Serbia, adding that she hopes her visit will contribute to the intensification of Serbia's European integration.

As Brnabic said that Serbia's membership in the European Union remains the country’s foreign policy goal despite numerous challenges, and that Serbia will continue to implement all necessary reforms, primarily for the sake of its citizens.

Marta Kos assessed that the current moment provides an exceptional opportunity to complete the unification of Europe, given the profound changes in the geopolitical climate. She expressed a strong political will to cooperate with the new Serbian government on implementing reforms that will enable the country’s membership in the European Union, emphasising that the Republic of Serbia occupies an important place in the enlargement process and is an important partner for the European Union.

The meeting also touched on the set of media laws that need to be adopted, the election of a new council for the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media, the implementation of the ODIHR recommendations for the improvement of the electoral process, as well as other ongoing processes within the parliament.

The meeting was also attended by the Serbian Ambassador to the European Union, Danijel Apostolovic, and the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, Emmanuel Giaufret.
