National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic Sends Telegram of Condolences on Death of Patriarch Irinej

“I was deeply saddened by the news of the death of His Holiness the Archbishop of Pec, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovci, Serbian Patriarch Irinej. The strength of the faith of the spiritual father of the Serbian people was the cornerstone of the spiritual values and noble human acts in the challenging times we live in.

In times of trouble, the Patriarch was the voice of reason and reconciliation, symbol of love, forgiveness and Christian morality. His death is a loss, not only for the Serbian people by for the Orthodox Christian world. He left us the St. Sava spirit of our people as a legacy to keep, nurture ad protect from future challenges. We will remember him for his wisdom and sense of justice, and his memory will encourage us to understand the real values he himself stood for – peace, mutual respect, compassion and humanity. The Serbian Orthodox Church gained another defender in the heavens, may his spiritual commitment stay with us always.

On behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and my own behalf please allow me to extend our most sincere condolences to You, the clergy and all the members of the Serbian Orthodox Church.“
