National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic Meets with Canadian Ambassador to Serbia Giles Norman

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met with Canadian Ambassador to Serbia Giles Norman.

National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic congratulated the Ambassador on Canada Day, 1 July, stressing that the bilateral relations between the two countries are good, however there is still room for further improvement, especially in the segment of economic cooperation. He said that this year marks the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations, adding that it is important to nurture the friendship owed, among others, to the numerous representatives of our diaspora who have been living and residing in Canada for a long time. He expressed readiness to continue working in his capacity as National Assembly Speaker on the further development and improvement of relations between the two countries by strengthening parliamentary cooperation.

Ambassador Norman thanked National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic for his contribution to the strengthening of relations between Serbia and Canada in his previous post, recalling his successful visit to Canada as Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2016. He agreed that relations are developing in a good direction and that we should work on strengthening all types of cooperation, especially economic ones, where there are great untapped potentials.

Ambassador Norman briefed his host on the situation in Canada and the measures untaken to combat the pandemic, praising Serbia's activities in that regard, especially the successfully organised vaccination process.

The officials agreed that contacts between the two parliaments should be intensified. Ambassador Norman then presented the National Assembly Speaker with a letter from the Speaker of the Canadian Senate George Furey and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Anthony Rota, inviting him to pay an official visit to Canada.
