National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Delegation Walks Out of Interparliamentary Conference on EU Common Foreign and Security Policy and Common Security and Defence Policy

Today, the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia headed by Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic, alongside the Spanish parliamentary delegation, walked out of the Interparliamentary Conference on the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) held in Vienna.

The Serbian and Spanish delegations protested against the fact that the provisional institutions of Kosovo were represented by a flag and the name “Kosovo” without an asterisk. The Conference is held under the auspices of the Austrian six-month Presidency of the European Union Council.

Yesterday, on the eve of the Conference, the Serbian delegation, having been informed about the list of participants, submitted a request that the representatives of the provisional institutions of Kosovo be represented in line with the Agreement on Regional Representation.

The parliamentary delegation of the Kingdom of Spain was of the same opinion. As the organizer, the Parliament of the Republic of Austria, would not honour the two delegations’ request, the representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Parliament of the Kingdom of Spain walked out of the Conference.

The organizer also failed to honour the statute of the Conference according to which only EU candidate states or NATO member states can have the status of observer.
