National Assembly Deputy Speaker Ragus Meets with Israeli Ambassador to Serbia

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus met today in the National Assembly with the Ambassador of the State of Israel to the Republic of Serbia Avivit Bar-Ilan to discuss the situation in Israel and the Middle East.

Ambassador Bar-Ilan briefed Deputy Speaker Ragus on the current developments and civilian casualties of the Iranian attack on Israel. She noted that statements by Iranian officials in the past indicated an intention to attack Israel, adding that the country is in a state of emergency.

She pointed out that unlike Iran, which attacks civilians and cities in Israel, the Israeli attacks are not directed against the Iranian people or the regime, but rather at preventing the production of nuclear warheads and long-range missiles, which should ensure the stability of the Middle Eastern region. She also stated that Israel has managed to establish complete air control.

The Israeli Ambassador also pointed out that the International Atomic Energy Agency report confirmed that Iran was making progress in its uranium enrichment programme and that it had been working on it in parallel with negotiations with the US, as well as that the G7 countries had supported Israel in its defence against Iran.

Marina Ragus agreed with Avivit Bar-Ilan that the current situation is dangerous not only for the Middle East, but also for the whole of Europe and the USA. The National Assembly Deputy Speaker emphasised that efforts should be invested into establishing peace and not aggravating the situation further, expressing hope that peace negotiations would begin as soon as possible in order to return peace and stability to the Middle Eastern region and normalise the lives of all the citizens.
