National Assembly Deputy Speaker Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic Receives US Congress Staffers’ Delegation

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic received a delegation of US Congress staffers, assistants to the congressmen of the House of Representatives and the Serbian Caucus, visiting Serbia.


They discussed strengthening the ties between the National Assembly and the US Congress and Senate, overall bilateral relations, Serbia’s European integration, regional stability, energy and the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

Deputy Speaker Marinkovic said that the cooperation between the Serbian Caucus and the National Assembly has been progressing nicely in the last few years, praising the personal cooperation between the US senators and congressmen and the members of the Serbian Parliament. He opined that there is ample room to expand cooperation adding that he personally welcomes the idea of parliamentary and governmental talks on the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Marinkovic thanked the US for its support of Serbia’s European integration process and implementation of economic reforms. He restated that Serbia is a military neutral country which cooperates with NATO to ensure security and safety and the MPs are more than willing to contribute to the fight against global terrorism. The Deputy Speaker stressed the importance of preserving the regional stability of the Western Balkans as it is essential for the development of economic cooperation and trade.

Speaking of Kosovo-Metohija, Marinkovic said that Serbia is committed to the continuation of dialogue and is aware of the US stance on Kosovo-Metohija, praising the fact that the US administration had after several decades wanted to hear Serbia’s arguments and support the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.

The six-member delegation of US Congress staffers, assistants to the congressmen of the House of Representatives and the Serbian Caucus, was headed by Chadwick R. Gore, staffer of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs

The delegation of US Congress staffers also met with the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the US Dragan Sormaz and PFG member Zika Gojkovic.

Sormaz and Gojkovic informed the guests about the National Assembly’s mode of operation, as well as the committees and delegations they are members of, while Sormaz also informed them that he is member of the SAPC and head of the standing delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. The MPs said that the 75-strong Parliamentary Friendship Group with the US is one of the biggest in the National Assembly. They also spoke about Serbia’s European integration and the question of its NATO membership.
