National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus Meets with Japanese Ambassador to Serbia

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus met today with Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Akira Imamura.


In the course of the meeting, Ambassador Imamura emphasised the importance that his country attaches to parliamentary cooperation, especially cooperation at the level of foreign affairs committees and parliamentary friendship groups, expressing his desire for their improvement in the current mandate of the National Assembly.

Deputy Speaker Ragus pointed out that the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Japan in the National Assembly will be formed in a very short time and welcomed the Japanese side’s interest in improving parliamentary cooperation. She said that the parliamentary friendship group will have full capacity to work with Japanese colleagues to improve relations, as well as that the National Assembly has a full mandate period in which there will be time to implement all jointly agreed plans. Deputy Speaker Ragus added that, despite the recent events in the Council of Europe and the UN, Serbia remains committed to its European path, dialogue with Pristina and preservation and nurturing of peace and stability in the region.
The officials exchanged views and opinions on the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, tourism, culture and direct Japanese investments in Serbia, the reform processes being carried out in our country, as well as on issues important for preserving peace and stability in the region.
